Dr Weng Chan
Professional Bio
Weng is a consultant ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon who returned to Adelaide in 2018 after completing his surgical retinal fellowship at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
Weng attended medical school at the University of Otago, New Zealand, graduating in 2008 and winning the undergraduate John Parr Prize in Ophthalmology. After completing his ophthalmology training in South Australia, he underwent further subspecialist training completing medical and surgical retinal fellowships at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide and Vitreoretinal fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
Weng has been actively involved in both clinical and basic science research since 2008. He currently has more than 30 publications in international, peer reviewed ophthalmic journals and has also co-authored several book chapters. He has won numerous research grants and awards and has completed a Master of Philosophy (Ophthalmology) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Ophthalmic Basic Sciences. Weng is heavily involved in teaching and has won several awards in recognition of his commitment to teaching.
Weng grew up in multiracial Malaysia and is fluent in English, Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien. Weng is also a keen learner of languages and speaks conversational Japanese.
