Professional Bio
Nicole Carnt is Scientia Associate Professor at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, UNSW, Sydney. She graduated from optometry at UNSW in 1989 and worked in private practice for 10 years in Australia and the UK before taking a position with the Brien Holden Vision Institute in 1999. She completed a PhD on contact lens related keratitis in 2012 and was awarded an Australian Government Research Fellowship in 2012-2017, spending the first 2.5 years at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London investigating the rare but severe contact lens associated corneal infection, acanthamoeba keratitis. Currently she leads a multi-disciplined team investigating genomic, environmental and behavioural risk factors for keratitis. She also teaches anterior diseases, ocular therapy, dry eye management and contact lens skills in the Clinical Optometry program at UNSW. Nicole is the chair of Standards Australia (SA) Contact Lens Committee and is the national expert to International Standards Organization (ISO).
